Sharapova is looking to book a ticket to her fifth French Open quarter-final. That the Russian former world no.1 has gone so far, so often, in a tournament that she readily admits is the toughest Grand Slam of all is testimony to her fighting spirit. Three quarter-final defeats and a semi-final loss mean the French Open is the only major she has never won.
Against Agnieszka Radwanska she has a very good record, 6-1 overall, her only loss coming at the 2007 US Open, so the 24-year-old should feel confident, even if only one of her wins was on clay.
"Masha" won her 23rd WTA title on clay in Rome recently, and that triumph, including wins over Wozniacki and Stosur had some picking her out as a dark horse for the Roland Garros crown. A less-than-convincing victory over French qualifier Caroline Garcia in the second round, which only came after her unknown contender froze at the winning post, dampened expectations.
A comfortable win over Yung-Jan Chan in the third round will have boosted her confidence though, and providing she can get her feet moving, she is a favourite here.
Radwanska is a player who passes under most people's radar. A stress fracture in her right foot truncated her 2010 campaign, otherwise she would likely have finished in the top 10 for the third season in a row, yet most casual tennis fans would struggle to identify her if shown her photo. She has two Wimbledon and one Australian Open quarter-finals to her name, four career titles (but none since 2008) and little else to fill the pages of the WTA yearbook.
What she does have however is talent, that first came to a fore as a junior when she won the girls' singles at Wimbledon in 2005 (defeating Tamira Paszek) and here at the French Open in 2006 (where she overcame Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova). She serves strongly when on form and hits powerfully off both wings.
Interestingly, she is one of a rare breed of women's players in today's game - that of the silent player. Not for Agnieszka the grunts, shrieks or wails that accompany every shot: she merely fixes the ball in quiet yet unflinching focus and lets her tennis do the talking. Up until now, it has not spoken out in eloquent terms on her behalf, letting her contemporaries dominate the conversation, as it were. A win on Monday over Sharapova would certainly set tongues waggingOnly here in the right place to watch sports channels free online tv broadcast and the information we provide is completely free of charge directly without credit card or whatever.then watch the game this time only our channel.Sharapova vs Radwanska Free Live Online Tv Sport Today.only at sporttvonlinetoday.blogspot.com.
