If Duffy can keep the Twins off the basepaths, Royals manager Ned Yost knows the young left-hander can succeed. Yost pointed to Duffy's walk numbers -- which have declined in each of his first three starts -- as a sign of improvement.

• With Thursday's win, the Twins are back to 19 games under .500. They were 20 games under for the first time since finishing the 2000 season at 69-93.
• The Royals have gone on to lose all three of Duffy's Major League starts. He was 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in seven starts this year for Triple-A Omaha.
